Sharing Your Digication ePortfolio

JHU students, faculty, and staff can use Digication’s sharing settings to give selected people, signed-in JHU users, or external viewers access to published ePortfolio pages. Open an existing ePortfolio before following the steps below.

With Private access, your ePortfolio is available to you, institutional Digication administrators, and people or groups you explicitly authorize.

For a Foundational Abilities assignment, keep the ePortfolio private and share it with the instructor, co-instructor, and/or teaching assistant named in the Canvas assignment. Public sharing is not required.

Sharing determines who can access your ePortfolio. Publishing makes selected pages and their latest changes visible to those viewers. See Publish your Digication ePortfolio.

With Specific People at JHU

Recipients need a JHU Digication account. For external viewers, follow the Outside of JHU instructions below.

  1. Select the Share button at the top of any page in your ePortfolio.
  2. Select Edit Settings. If you see View Recommended Settings instead, select it to open the sharing settings.
  3. Open the Access Type menu.
  4. Select Private.
  5. Enter the recipient’s name or email address in Search to add more people / group / course.
  6. Select the intended account from the search results.
  7. Select Viewer from that person’s Permission menu if they only need to read your published pages. Grant a broader role only when you intend to allow editing, publishing, or permission management.
  8. Select the Save button.
  9. Publish any pages or changes you want viewers to see, following Publish your Digication ePortfolio.
  10. Send your ePortfolio URL to the intended viewers. If you enabled a password, provide it separately.

With Anyone at JHU

Private within Johns Hopkins University allows signed-in JHU Digication users to view your published pages. For Foundational Abilities assignments, use Private and share with the course personnel named in the assignment instead.

  • Require password for logged-in viewers: Enable this option to require a password for institution-wide access. People or groups explicitly granted access do not need the portfolio password.
  • Show in directory and user profile: Turn this off to hide the ePortfolio from directory and profile listings. This does not change who is allowed to view it.
  1. Select the Share button at the top of any page in your ePortfolio.
  2. Select Edit Settings. If you see View Recommended Settings instead, select it to open the sharing settings.
  3. Open the Access Type menu.
  4. Select Private within Johns Hopkins University.
  5. If you want password protection, enable Require password for logged-in viewers and enter a password.
  6. Set Show in directory and user profile to the visibility you want.
  7. Select the Save button.
  8. Publish any pages or changes you want viewers to see, following Publish your Digication ePortfolio.
  9. Send your ePortfolio URL to the intended viewers. If you enabled a password, provide it separately.

Outside of JHU

Use Public when you intend to share published pages outside JHU. Without a password, anyone can view those pages and search engines may index them. Password protection limits access to people who have the URL and password, except people or groups explicitly granted access.

  1. Select the Share button at the top of any page in your ePortfolio.
  2. Select Edit Settings. If you see View Recommended Settings instead, select it to open the sharing settings.
  3. Open the Access Type menu.
  4. Select Public.
  5. If you want password protection, enable Require password for public viewers and enter a password.
  6. Select the Save button.
  7. Publish any pages or changes you want viewers to see, following Publish your Digication ePortfolio.
  8. Send your ePortfolio URL to the intended viewers. If you enabled a password, provide it separately.
