Share Your Digication ePortfolio

By default, your ePortfolio is private to only you. If you want to share it with people at JHU such as an instructor or a classmate, you can keep the setting to private, but add these individuals by their Digication ePortfolio account. You also have the option to share with anyone who has a JHED ID, any external user (i.e. publicly), or external users with which you provide a password.

Please note, sharing is not the same as publishing – a page must be published in order to be visible in your ePortfolio, but the ePortfolio must be shared in order for your designated viewers to see your published pages. How to publish your Digication ePortfolio.

With Specific People at JHU

To share your ePortfolio with specific people at JHU such as an instructor or a classmate, you will keep the setting private but add these individuals by their Digication ePortfolio account.

  1. Select the Share button at the top of any page in your ePortfolio.
  2. Select the Edit Settings button.
  3. Under “Also share with specific people, group or courses,” begin typing the name or email of the person with whom you would like to share.
  4. Select the appropriate person, then select the level of access you would like for them. Unless you are collaborating on an ePortfolio with someone, Viewer is probably the most appropriate role.
  5. Select the Save button.
  6. If your page is not yet published, it will prompt you to publish the page.

To share your ePortfolio in this manner, the person must have a Digication login. If you would like to share it privately with someone external to JHU, follow the instructions in this guide for sharing with password protection.

With Anyone at JHU

  1. Select the Share button at the top of any page in your ePortfolio.
  2. Select the Edit Settings button.
  3. Select the button with the lock icon (if you haven't yet changed any sharing settings, it will say “Private, only accessible by you” next to the icon).
  4. Select Private within Johns Hopkins University.
  5. Select the Save button.
  6. If your page is not yet published, it will prompt you to publish the page.

This setting means that anyone logged in with a JHED ID can see your ePortfolio. If you want your page to be more private, you can also use either or both of the following settings.

  1. Require a password for logged in viewers. Create an additional password so that even people logged in to JHU will be prompted for a password to your ePortfolio. You can then provide the password only to the individuals you want to view it.
  2. Show/hide in directory and user profile. With this option turned on, anyone logged in can “discover” your ePortfolio through the ePortfolio Directory, or by visiting your profile from the User Directory. If you turn this setting off, your ePortfolio will not be easily discoverable.

Outside of JHU

You can change the settings to share your ePortfolio with people outside of JHU, such as potential collaborators or employers.

  1. Select the Share button at the top of any page in your ePortfolio.
  2. Select the Edit Settings button.
  3. Select the button with the lock icon (if you haven't yet changed any sharing settings, it will say “Private, only accessible by you” next to the icon).
  4. Select Public.
  5. Select the Save button.
  6. If your page is not yet published, it will prompt you to publish the page.

This setting means that anyone can see your ePortfolio, and it may be discoverable via search engines. If you want your page to be more private, you can require a password for public viewers. Create a password so that visitors will be prompted to enter it when they visit your ePortfolio. You can then provide the password only to the individuals you want to view it.
