There are several easy ways to annotate using a touch device or stylus, whether you're working on a touchscreen laptop, a drawing table (like a Wacom), or a mobile device such as a tablet or smartphone. In this tutorial, we'll walk through practical options for writing on a whiteboard or annotating content: using the Zoom mobile app and mirroring your iPhone or iPad to your computer.
Zoom Mobile App
This is the easiest approach.
- Download and install the Zoom mobile app from the app store.
- Open the Zoom mobile app.
- Sign in to Zoom.
- Click Start a Meeting to run the meeting on your iOS or Android device, or select Join to join your own meeting as a participant and run the meeting on your computer while using your mobile device to annotate shared content.
- Click Share and select the app you would like to use for annotation (e.g., screen, OneDrive, whiteboard, etc.).
- Android only: You can share your entire screen, including most apps, from your Android device. While sharing, tap Annotate at the bottom of the screen to open the annotation tools, or tap Stop Share to stop sharing and return to the meeting controls.
NOTE: Zoom does not support annotation when sharing your entire screen from an iOS device. If you need to annotate while sharing your full iOS screen, use Screen Mirroring or Wired Sharing as described below.
Zoom Screen Mirroring (only for iOS/iPadOS)
This option takes a bit more setup, but it works well if you want to use your computer’s audio and webcam while sharing a whiteboard or annotating a presentation from your iPhone or iPad.
- Make sure both your computer and iPhone/iPad are on the same WiFi network.
- Open Zoom on your computer and start a meeting.
-
Click Share and then iPhone/iPad via AirPlay on the Advanced tab.
-
On your iPhone/iPad swipe to open the Control Center (settings for flashlight, brightness, etc.), and select Screen Mirroring.
- In your Screen Mirroring options, select the computer with which you want to share your iPhone/iPad screen.
Note: it will be in this format “Zoom-yourcomputername”
You're now sharing the mobile device screen to the meeting.
Wired Sharing iOS/iPadOS
Note: Sharing an iPhone or iPad screen using a wired connection is supported only on Mac computers. Windows users must use a wireless screen-mirroring option.
- In your meeting, click Share Screen.
-
Choose iPhone/iPad via Cable.
- (Optional) If you would like to share your phone audio into the meeting, check Share sound.
- Click Share.
- Follow the on-screen instructions displayed.
- Connect your iPhone or iPad via cable.
- When prompted on the mobile device, select Trust.
-
Enter your phone passcode if required.
You're now sharing the mobile device screen to the meeting.
