By reading this article, you will learn how to use Microsoft Office’s built-in equation editor to create accessible, editable equations—including typing, inserting, editing, handwriting conversion, and LaTeX entry.
JHU provides access to Microsoft Office through mySoftware, available through the myJH Portal. Microsoft Office allows adding equations that are easy to edit and compatible with most screenreaders. By using a mathematical authoring tool like the one built into Word and PowerPoint (as opposed to a flat image of an equation), you’re making more future-friendly, accessible documents.
This built-in equation editor allows you to insert common mathematical structures, create and edit your own equations, and even convert handwritten equations from a touchscreen or tablet. You can also enter equations using LaTeX syntax if you prefer.
