Getting Started with Zoom Canvas

Zoom Canvas, formerly called Zoom Docs, is a collaborative workspace in Zoom for drafting, organizing, and sharing documents, tables, wikis, meeting materials, and other working content. WSE faculty, staff, and students can use this guide to access Zoom Canvas, understand its main navigation, add pages, and share documents with collaborators.

Access and Create Zoom Canvas

You can access Zoom Canvas through the WSE Zoom web portal, the Zoom Workplace app, or a Zoom meeting.

From the WSE Zoom Web Portal

  1. Go to wse.zoom.us and sign in with your JHED credentials.
  2. In the left navigation menu, select Canvas.
  3. Select New document.

From the Zoom Workplace Desktop App

  1. Sign in to the Zoom Workplace app.
  2. Select Canvas from the top navigation.
  3. Select New document.

If Canvas is not visible, select More, and then select Canvas.

From the Zoom Workplace Mobile App

  1. Sign in to the Zoom Workplace mobile app.
  2. Tap More.
  3. Tap Canvas.
  4. Tap the plus (+) icon.

During a Zoom Meeting

  1. Select Canvas from the meeting toolbar. If it is not visible, select More, and then select Canvas.
  2. Select + New to create a document.

Navigate Zoom Canvas

Use the Zoom Canvas sidebar and homepage tabs to locate and manage your documents:

  • Search: Search documents by title, content, or owner.
  • Notifications: Review comments, invitations, and documents in which you were mentioned.
  • Recent: View documents you recently opened.
  • My Meetings: View recent meetings and create eligible meeting documents.
  • My Docs: View the documents you own.
  • Shared with Me: View documents that other people shared with you.
  • Starred: View documents you marked as favorites.
  • Settings: Manage your Zoom Canvas preferences.
  • Trash: View documents deleted within the last 30 days and restore them when needed.

Add Pages and Subpages

A new Zoom Canvas document begins with one page. You can add additional pages or organize related content into subpages.

  1. Open the Zoom Canvas document.
  2. In the upper-left corner, select Add page.
  3. Enter a title for the new page.

To add a subpage, use either of these methods:

  • Select the More options (···) icon next to an existing page, and then select Add page.
  • Type a forward slash (/) in the document, and then select Subpage from the menu.

You can also select + Add at the bottom of the page list to add another page.

Share a Zoom Canvas Document

Share a Zoom Canvas document when other people need to view, comment on, or edit its content.

  1. Open the document.
  2. Select Share in the upper-right corner.
  3. Enter the name, email address, or Zoom Team Chat channel you want to share the document with.
  4. Select the appropriate permission:
    • Co-owner: Can edit, comment, share, and delete the document.
    • Editor: Can edit and comment.
    • Commenter: Can view and comment.
    • Viewer: Can only view the document.
  5. Under General Access, select the least-permissive access setting that supports your collaboration needs.
  6. Select Copy Link if you need a shareable link.
