Portfolios are used to highlight achievements in research, teaching, and other facets of professional and academic life. Portfolios encourage "folio thinking," which includes a reflective approach to choosing the artifacts that best represent the owner's learning experiences. The electronic version of portfolios, or ePortfolios, allows students, staff, and faculty to have a digital presence. They also can help gather evidence for accreditation, internal advancement, and a way to communicate with businesses and other outside partners.
Using Digication for ePortfolio Assignments
At WSE, students can use Digication to create their ePortfolios for sharing with peers, faculty, or external reviewers. Digication is also used in coordination with Canvas for faculty to create portfolio assignments that require students to complete various coursework throughout their program.
- Start by navigating to the Assignments tab on the course navigation menu and clicking the Add Assignment button:
- In the Create Assignments page, give your assignment a title and descriptions as normal, and make sure that the Submission Type is set to Online and that only Website Entry is marked:
- If you would like your assignment to have a particular format for the ePortfolio, you can create a template and share it with your students for the assignment. Follow the instructions here for a guide on creating ePortfolio templates.
Submitting an ePortfolio Assignment (Students)
Submitting an ePortfolio assignment is easy for students.
- Navigate to the Share tab in your ePortfolio page (note-if this is your first time sharing the Share Settings display will pop up):
- Under the Share Settings, you will find the web address for your ePortfolio. Make sure that you have set the privacy option to allow visibility to your instructor, either by allowing for Johns Hopkins University users or adding your instructor individually:
- After that, simply provide the web address for your ePortfolio in the field in the assignment and click the Submit Assignment button:
